I've had this pre-amp for 4 years, and I've never been fully satisfied with it, never met my expectations. So, I decided to go ahead and upgrade the tubes. I ordered NOS tubes, a Mullard GT7 and a GE 12ax7, they cost me a little over $100 all together. WELL WORTH IT! I expected a subtle difference, but it is night and day! Smooth, creamy, slightly darker.....I feel like I have a brand new mic-pre. I re-tracked vox on a few tunes, and they just came to life, pop out of the mix, just....wow! It's what I expected when I bought this years ago. Now, I do regret not spending more and purchasing the LA-610 channel strip, but at the time I was rocking more of a budget. If you own any of the UA 610 pre-amps, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND spending a little more cash, and upgrading to NOS tubes, to get your gear to full potential. You will not regret it! Cheers!
