Preamps... Too Many Choices

CRAP!

Just when I have it narrowed down to 2 preamps (Joe Meek VC6Q and the ART Pro Channel), I get some strong recommendations for the Focusrite Voice Master.
This unit looks great on paper, despite the "so-so" reviews by prorec.com
Lots of great features on it, and it's noise levels are almost non-existant when compared with the afformentioned tube-preamps. (That, itself, is very important to me)
All 3 units have a built-in compressor, which is exactly what I want.
They all have thier pro's and cons, but this is getting all too confusing.
Does anybody own any of these units? I'd be interested in hearing your comments. Especially comments on the Focusrite Voice Master.... my "preamp choice du'joir".

Buck62,

There was(is) a guy on the list who I discussed his setup with a while back. He had $30k in studio gear and owned the Focusrite voicemaster. He didn't seem to be too pleased with it.

I think that the post was titled something like recording great vocals (not exact). It was soon after I joined the list in March so check the archives.
