preamp update!

what does the texture knob do on the RND units?

when silk is engaged it alters the sound, the more the the left it's a sweeter sound, and closer to the right it gets dirtier and more aggressive. The silk is hard to describe in words, it adds colour and harmonics but it's very subtle, sounds wonderful on electric guitars and bass guitar, and it can thicken the sound a bit.

so if you were me would you get the 2x SSL 611, 2x RND 551 or one elysia xfilter? would love to know what you think

Honestly, I've been miked through SSL boards (9000J) in the 80s and loved the EQ's versatility. And of the three, that's all the experience I have. I only mentioned the 551s because of your neve pres... So it would really be hard to say. Neve is hard to beat, but so is SSL. I had to Google the Elysia to even know it was EQ, just to be honest. Most of my experience was on the other side of the microphone (which is hard to believe hearing my voice now) lol.
