Pre for Rock/Pop vocals

OK, as an addendum to my thread about $550 preamps, what I'm really looking for is my go to vocal pre. I record mostly male rock/alt, female rock/pop.

Mics I have;
Gefell M-930
Royer 121
SP-C1
Apex-460,STOCK
MXL-V93M
AKG C-3000
AKG C-1000's
SM-58
Beta 58
SM-57
Beta 57
I've been using the M-930, C-1, and the V93M for vox. The M-930 is the one I'm the most familiar with and it's been working for me. I'm kind of a "hidden secrets" kind of guy. That's why I've been using the Symetrix 528 as my pre for a while, but I'm really looking for a magic combination for the Vox. I've also got some budget stuff;
ART Tube Pac
ART TPS-II
RME Fireface 800 pre's
A&H Mixwiz console
And I had a rack of SCA stuff that I built, but it really didn't sound unique enough to justify the cost. I had 4 of the A12 modules and 2 N72's. I had fun building them and got my money back when I sold them, so it was a good experience, but they only seemed to impart their character when I really pushed them (distortion?)
Maybe I'm expecting too much out of a preamp?

I'm also using the UAD La2a, 1176, Neve, Pultec Pro.
