List of everything that is rack mountable..?

elenore19

Slowing becoming un-noob.
I searched through the threads so I didn't just make this right away without looking first. I've stated in another thread that I'm a complete noob at this, so I'm just wondering what is rack mountable so then I can research each Item seperately and try and teach myself some stuff. So yeah, sorry for being such a noob, but you gotta start somewhere, right? :p But yeah. Thanks for the help. It is very greatly appreciated

just about everything is "rack-mountable." post this in the newb forum. It really doesn't go here.

but you should read just about everything in This before you do.

Ya know ...

I have nothing to do right now, and I'm kinda' bored.

Say, I know what would be fun. I'll go and spend the next week researching every piece of recording gear ever made, and come up with a list of everything that's rackmountable.

All so that some newb who just started a thread can be better informed. I'm going to rush out and do that right away!

Just start with a decent soundcard, a decent preamp, and a decent mic.

If you're gonna record to your computer hard drive you can record dry and use software effects later.

It's really hard to figure out exactly what (or even why) you are asking.

A piece of gear being rack-mountable has nothing to do with how it functions in an audio chain. Rack mounting gear is just an efficient and sturdy way of stacking up a bunch of pieces so they take up the minimum amount of space and won't fall on the floor.

Buying gear based solely on whether it is rack-mountable is silly, unless you are planning on transporting all the time on airplanes, etc. It makes about as much sense as asking:

"Please tell me all the pieces of gear that are black..."

or

"Please tell me all the pieces of gear that have red lights on them..."

or how about:

"Please tell me all the pieces of gear that begin with the letter 'A'..."

The answer to any of those questions, including yours, would fill dozens of pages. And in the end would tell you nothing that is useful, so what would motivate anyone to try and answer?

This is the kind of question that only Walters would ask, just to annoy people. You aren't Walters are you?

can we count "boobs" in that list?

you know...........rack......mountable.......

:D

cheers,

Hey Wade:

There's a word for people who are into 19" racks - pedophiles! :p

One word answer: everything. Anything can be rack mounted as long as it is under about 18 1/2 inches in at least one dimension (given a tall enough rack). That's what rack shelves are for---for mounting all the stupid pieces of gear for which the manufacturer was too cheap to provide rack ears....

Oh damn, burned.

And to everyone else. Yeah, sorry how stupid I was to think of that question, and even when asking it asking it in here instead of newbies section. Sorry.

-Elliot the noob

Great, now let's get on to the really important question........Who can provide a list of everything that uses a wall wart? :D

Well, look at the bright side. You distracted Walters for at least 20 minutes, thus ensuring that for that brief time, at least, he wasn't annoying the crap out of everyone else.

Nothing personal against you, elenore. What we were hoping to try and do was maybe encourage you to rephrase the question into something someone could actually answer, rather than in its current "Would someone please count all the grains of sand on the beach and tell me the result?".

At least if you could explain WHY you were asking, maybe we could even help you rephrase the question into something practical.
