DP-32 and compression on mixdown

Hey all,
I have a DP-32 with outboard compressors. one limitation of the DP-32 is if you use the internal comps you can only apply it on the way in. I want the ability to add compression during mixdown. I run everything through a console (SX4882) first, then route the 8 sub groups to the 8 inputs on the DP. My idea is to setup one of my comps on on the FX 2 send on the DP, then I can route the comp return back to a track on the DP. That way I will have the dry and comp vocal to compare and have the option to redo it if I need to. Anyone have a better idea? I know, the best option would be mixdown on a DAW but I do not have one at the moment. Thanks!

That would work just fine. In fact, you could squash the crap out of the vocal and play it along with the uncompressed vocal for an interesting effect.
