dmp3/mbox question

second skin

BEAT IT!
i just got a dmp3 to use into the 3rd and 4th inputs of my mbox 2 pro. the mbox has a global knob for input 3 and 4 to keep from clipping the A/D. i'm having a problem where even with this knob all the way down and the gain on the dmp3 all the way down i'm still getting clipping.

i have a feeling it may have to do with a mismatch somewhere. thought i might seek some advice from you folks on what direction i should take. my first instinct is to get a pad to go between the two but i don't want to do that if it's and impedance problem or something.

here's specs for both pieces of gear.
