I am looking at interfaces for my macbook for portable live recording. I would appreciate useful comments on the M-box 2 pro. I am thinking that an addiitional DMP 3 preamp would be useful as well.
 
I'm not sure but I don't think the DMP has digital outs. I'd think about a pre with digital outs to give you a couple of more in/outs. Maybe ART MPA Gold Digital. I have the non-dig version and it's a wonderful pre-amp IMO. Got a budget number?
 
yea dude, there'd be no reason to pair a DMP3 with an m-box...its preamps might be slightly better than the m-box, but it will be a very marginal difference. you're just trading 2 channels of ok pres for 2 more channels of ok pres.

if anything, do what ridgeback suggested - get a preamp w/ a digital output - this will allow you to use the 2 pres in the m-box along with the outboard pre @ the same time.

Budget would be in the 5 - 700 range. Would it make sense to get a pre with diffferent characteristics. -
