Hello,

I stumbled upon a dbx 228 in brand new, unused condition. It looks extremely oldschool and I was wondering whether these are good, how much it would be worth, when it was made, and also whether by "dynamic noise reduction" they mean compression. If anyone knows anything about this model, please let me know... I can't find ANYTHING on it!

dbx made a run at the home audiophile market years ago... this was one of them... actually a tape noise reduction system... not worth a lot... pretty effective for tape noise reduction on your home stereo though...

I actually own one of their dynamic expanders from the same family/time period... somewhere around here...

It's not a compressor. Those noise reduction systems were designed primarily to reduce tape hiss.
