buzzing sound!

I'm new to the world of sound engineering, and recently acquired some pretty cool vintage like stuff, hooked it up, it sounded OK at first, but it's now starting to make a buzzing sound.

Right now I just have it all plugged into a basic surge protector. I'm wondering if getting a power distribution model would help. Could that possibly fix the buzzing problem, or is the buzzing indicative of some other problem?

Here's what's involved:
- two big-ass speakers
- 1 Yamaha Integrated Mixer EM Series Model 85
- Ramsa WP-1400 2 Channel Power Amplifier (it's a 400 watt power audio amplifier made by national)

THANKS!

  1. Disconnect everything
  2. Plug in the mixer
  3. Monitor mixer through headphones with all faders down
  4. Try master fader up... then add one at a time
  5. Hook up power amp
  6. Power up amp
  7. Monitor through headphones
  8. Hook up speakers
  9. Monitor through speakers
  10. Hook up one input at a time to the mixer
  11. Keep adding inputs to the mixer
At what point does the Buzzing start?

any help?

just seeing if anyone can help with this.... it's sort of a hissing sound...trying to get rid of it....any ideas?

thanks again,
sydney
