building my own FX

hi,

wondered if anyone of you guys could help me. I am currently building a multi FX unit for vocals, for my A Level electronics course. For one effect I am interested in getting that 'speaking down the telephone' sound you hear on records. I know of ways this can be done, including light distortion, but have heard that the best way is to lower the sample or bit rate of the input signal. Does anyone know of any circuit diagrams or sites that could provide them, of a circuit that could do this?? Or does anyone have any better suggestions on how I could get this sound.

thankz

Analog is probably the easiest, but I can't remember the name of the filter type that produces the phone sound. (High-pass filter?)

Have a look at http://www.us-epanorama.net/audiocircuits.html for some ideas. And just plug "audio schematics" as a search criteria into Google. You get lots of decent hits.
