BBE 362 Sonic Maximizer.

Okay, when people make suggestions, it is your duty as the person asking for help, to reveal whether or not you have ruled out the things the people trying to help, have suggested.

So....

BBE's have their uses. People that bash them, don't know how to use them. You CAN NOT do the same with EQ.

and, um....5150's are crap. Get yourself a Rectifier.

you're correct, you can't do what a BBE does with EQ, many people don't understand what a BBE does. However your comment that 5150s are crap is pretty ignorant. even crates can sound great if used within their limitations. Many people say rectifiers are crap... go figure!

IMHO 5150s don't fit in with metal music all that well, they're great amps for guitarists who are into loud but expressive music with great tone though. rectos are great for one very particular sound, but to me not as versatile as a 5150. More of a specialists amp. So I think maybe what you meant is that 5150s aren't ideal for your style of music, rectos are better suited to it however. it's like saying single coil pickups are crap. they're not, but they don't fit in with what you might play.

Guitarists can be so black and white about stuff, it really misleads a lot of people, you know what I mean? Try to be more helpful and not just putting down everything that doesn't fit into your kind of music.

YES, I'm having a bad day, not enough sleep! LoL

sorry for raggin on you, I take it back in advance!

Cheers,
Don

5150's are used alot for modern metal. So to say they don't fit is misleading. Actually 6505's are the new 5150's and they are used alot for metal. Check out what metal bands are using these days and you will find Peavey up there with Boogie and Marshall. I find albums using Rectofiers generally muddy. I do like the TriAxis and Mark IV's and Studio Pres. You would also be surprised to find out that early Metallica had ADA on it.
As for BBE stuff I like it. It has its use. I have seen many big name metal guitarists use them in there rigs. ;)

for the record I'm picking up a used 362 tomorrow for $25. gotta love that price.... figure I'll use it somewhere. people will laugh, but I've used those devices on pro cd mixes before. Not on the full mix generally, but on keys, guitars, and vocals when they're just not.... right. I don't use bbe often at all, but once out of every 20 or so albums they come in handy, even in a recording studio.

i honestly hate sonic maximizers.
i think they don't do anything that you can't do without an eq.

they are like, i dont know, comparable to salt and pepper; when you kill a piece of meat on the barbeque, you just put alot of salt and pepper to cover up for it, and then it doesnt make it better anyway.

Alright, since someone decided they were going to revive threads from the dead ... I'll bite. :D

I like the salt and pepper analogy. Imagine that you receive a very deep and open gash in your flesh -- say, from a flying pitchfork or chain saw. One way to take your mind off the pain would be to simply inflict another wound on yourself in another part of your body, and put alot of salt, pepper, and juice from a Habanero pepper on it. The new pain you have now inflicted on yourself will be sure to take your mind off the old pain from your pitchfork/chainsaw wound.

That's pretty much what the Sonic Maximizer is like.

I use it occasionally and only a little bit - in a mix or on a specific instrument that needs some clarity. I doubt I'd use it in a guitar rig.
I also use an 801 Omnisonic Imager in a similar way though this critter is untweakable & either works spectacularly or fails dismally. The 801 can really lift a guitar in a mix but doesn't sound much chop at all when used between guitar and amp.

For the love of god, if cubanrocker (op) comes in here again, I'm gonna have to kick some asses. Why the hell did this thread re-surface again?

I play a lot of different types of music. They are crap, plain and simple :p These were Eddie's amp, and thus were designed for a certain type of music. Seems to me that you have to over process the crap out of it (much like Eddie does) to get a somewhat useful sound.

However, that is just an opinion, and everybody has one. Can't say I know everyone that owns one, but everyone I know that bought one of these, put it aside in about a year.
