American Audio VLP-300 Power Amplifier question

Hey guys, I've never used a power amp before and was wondering how it works. If i buy one is all i need a cab ? or would i still need a head, and also if i had a head, would this thing make it louder and clearer ? or one of the 2 ?

You need a preamp with enough gain to drive the input. That depends on the impedance of the input of the power amp. Just like a mic and it's preamp.

Any board or preamp should be able to drive it, but to full power is another story. That depends on the input sensitivity too. Like you'll see a lot of units with a detent in back with -10 or +4 db, it depends on the source.

But any preamp or mixing board should be able to drive it.
