The world of preamps

Hi,

Is there a thread (like the one in the microphone section) that shows preamps vs. price range vs. utility. I mean good preamps for vocals (or drums or guitars) in the price range of 100-300$ then in the price range of 300-600$ etc...

Thanks,

Thierry

I know everyone has its preferences... That makes it hard to choose

Like the Post Preamp A vs. Preamp B The A was a RNP and The B was a DMP 3

the difference was so slight it was not worth the extra 300$ for the RNP. (most of the people liked the DMP-3)

Right now I would like to hear Presonus MP20 and VTB-1. I heard The Brick (Groove Tubes) on a bass and was very convincing.

All it has to do is to be way better than a mackie CFX16 (that is what i got)

7th circle makes a variety of preamps in the $150 - $350 price range. However, these are kits so you'll have to be competent with a soldering iron. In addition you'll also need to invest additional dollars on a rack and power supply kit but when it’s all said and done, you'll end up with some really good preamps.

I own a RNP and a DMP3 and the RNP blows away the DMP3 I dunno what kind of of set up you have but on my system using RNP into Alesis HD24XR with a treated room with a pair of Yamaha's and mixing on a Soundcraft console it's way more then a slight difference it's a night and day difference.

You're hearing something that a lot of other people aren't.

I'd put the EH12AY7 pre in category 1.

I built some JLM pres recently, they kick ass, and you can build as many or as few as you want.
