    True! You can find raw channel strips (4 at a time) any where from $45 to $100. on the bay.

    True that! Be careful though.
    There are line modules with transformers that just need a few tweaks to become lovely mic pres, then there are line modules without the transformers that I guess aren't as easy to adapt.
    I think I picked up my 8 (with x-formers) for about $45 each IIRC.
