tube screamer or rp6

i have a digitec rp6 effects processor that is about 3yrs old now. i don't really like it anymore. it has great options but it makes a lot of background noise that i don't want. i was thinking about trading it in for a tube screamer and maybe a drum machine. should i stick with the rp6? is the tube screamer really as cool as i've heard? can i get a good drum machine real cheap if i do trade it in?

Before you do the "trade in," listen to the Tube Screamer first. I've been reading a lot about the TB in some threads so I went to the local music store and played around with one. I didn't like the results. I ended up buying a different pedal.

Listen to as many effects as you can - then decide for yourself.
 
thanks for the reply man. i agree with you that that is the way to go. i was wondering if someone had owned one for a while and had any problems with the tube screamer. my rp6 has been in steady steady decline since i bought it. i take really good care of my stuff but that thing is doomed to self destruct.thanks
