Not on the outside... A balanced bay will have 3 contacts (tip, ring, sleeve). An unbalanced bay will have two (tip, sleeve).
If in doubt, get a balanced bay. You can use a balanced bay with unbalanced gear. Not the other way around.

Thanks for the reply MM. I have a Neutrik that a friend gave me, but there isn't a model # or any other info on it and I'd like to know if it were balanced or unbalanced. Could I test it with a multimeter and a 1/4" TRS cable? I have both but I'm somewhat clueless when it comes to electronics. I know, I should have picked a different hobby

I don't think Neutrik ever made an unbalanced bay...
But yeah, if you take a TRS cable to the front and the back of the same point, you should be able to hit it with a continuity tester. As long as the ring and the sleeve both measure up, you should be fine.
