BNC Cables

I want to make my own BNC cables for use with a lucid word clock generator. The cables I found to buy range from $80 Monster cables, to $5 Hosa cables. Most of them are no shorter than 6'. I only need like 8" - 10" lenghts to reach all my equipment, so I figured i'd build my own.

I've searched for information but haven't seen anything worthwhile. On redco.com they have bnc cable and connectors, but i'm not sure if they'll work for this application. Here's links:>

Cable:

Connector:

Will this work for what i'm trying to do? If not, does anyone have any other suggestions on where to buy cable and connectors?

Thanks for any help.

You need 75 ohm video grade caxial cable. I like Canare connectors. And you'll need a crimping tool.

I bought all my word clock cabling from a local electronics shop (Randolph & Rice). I think each BNC cable cost me about $3.

Might be cheaper to make your own, but factor in what your time's worth. For me, $3 cables were the best money spent.

For making your own, Teddy has provided some good links. I like Allied better than Markertek myself, but only because they screwed me on an order once and never notified me. Never used Mouser...

Thanks for the info guys. Lots of good links, thanks BigRay!

I found a 1' BNC 75ohm cable for $5 online. I guess i'm going to price out the cost of bulk cable, a crimping tool, and the connectors, and see if it's worth it. Time isn't a factor really, since I enjoy making cables. Well not enjoy really... I just like to know what's going on so I can fix or make my own.

Making your own is really not worth the effort, IMHO. Buy a couple of cheap cable TV cables from your local store and buy F-to-BNC adapters for a couple bucks apiece at Rat Shack. That way if you ever need a longer cable, you can just grab a longer standard coax from your local Wal-Mart or whatever.
