Upgrading Cubase... Do I have to reinstall plugins too?

Hi all, a clueless gearslug here.

I'm planning to upgrade Cubase5 to 8.

For all the vstis, do I have to reinstall all of them from scratch, or just moving dll would work? (It feels like a nightmare to reinstall everything...)

Also, can I keep both cubase 5 and 8 in my pc, just incase I would like to bounce back to Cubase 5?

Thanks!

Plugins will stay in the VST Plugins folder. No need to reinstall them.

Yes you can have both installed and use them separately. Once you open a Cubase 5 cpr file in Cubase 8 and save it, it will not open in 5. Just make sure to rename them so you still have the original. Better yet would be to backup your Cubase 5 files on a separate drive just in case.

Cubase renames the old files with a new name - re: the plug-ins. Not all the paths may be picked up if you keep things in odd places, took me a while going from 8 to 8.5 to find out why some vanished. eventually just opened up the old one and wrote down the places it had and put the same tree in the new one.
