MIDI file extensions

Hi all

Anyone know what all these file extensions are for?

MIDI, RMID, KAR, MID0, SMF, MID1, RMI GP3, GP4

I know they all for storing some kind of MIDI arrangements. Some might be the mac version and some might be just an older abandoned format that once was used. Anybody know anything about these? The advantages over each other?

Does anybody know of a good webpage that might explain it all?

Thanks

http://filext.com/ can help with this type of question.

You'll find that most modern sequencers use .mid as the type and store the data inside the file as MIDI type 1 when they are exporting MIDI files. Many of the programs have their own proprietary format that they use for data normally.

it should be noted that standard midi files are midi files so you should be able just change the extension to whatever you want
