whats a good *budget* mic to use on a bass guitar rig?

Personally I hate the results from either the AKG D112 or Shure Beta 52 especially when used on both are used on the bass drum(s) and bass cab for live or recording.
For speed metal lock step stuff it might be a good result but for other stuff not so much.

For that reason I most often take my own DI and mic just in case.
