What polar pattern are our ears?

Here's something from Tape-Op maybe worth reading:
Tape Op - the Creative Music Recording Magazine > Tutorials > Dummy Head Mic

They say to use omnis in the ears canals - and that the directionality is generated by the shape of the head.
"The microphones had to be pressure-type microphones as opposed to pressure-gradient types that have directional (cardioid, hypercardioid, figure-eight, etc.) polar patterns. Pressure type mics are naturally omnidirectional and, like our eardrums, receive sound from only one side of the "diaphragm". It is the ear and head shape that impose the directional patterns on our otherwise basically omnidirectional ears."

Then applied some EQ after the fact. It's a cool article. It doesn't address the specific shape of the "pattern" around the head and how much rejection you get from L/R - but still interesting read.
