What mics to buy for vocals and acoustic guitar?

Hi, I want to record vocals and acoustic guitars (some mariachi bands). I'm buying mail order and won't be able to test the mics (like everyone suggests).
The mic(s) will be plugged into a Mackie 1402-VLZ mixer and then on to the Yamaha MD4S recorder, then finally burnt to CD. Budget for mic(s) is ~$550. What is suggested for this situation?

i'd say if you don't have any already get some SURE sm-57's and sm-58's. 3 or 4 should do the job (and most job's).
57's & 58's are rugged and good sounding.
both can be used for vocals or instruments.
57's are great for guitar and are a little brighter than 58's there also less expensive. 57's need a wind screen for most vocals and the flavor of the 58 is generally prefered for vocals.
so i'd say get a few of each for what you think you need to cover.
maybe 2 of each should fit in your budget.
