What kind of microphone is this?

I just found this "thing" yesterday, never seen anything like it before. Could someone tell me what it is, what is it good for?
It says electret condenser mike. I attached some images to the post.
It has a jack output, and it doesn't work I guess :c. It hums when I touch the metallic part on the top, but nothing else. I can also hear humming difference if I switch it on/off and if I move the battery inside(1,5v AA) it crackles.

There you go:

(The carpet was made by my grandmother by hand, that's why I keep it. Even if it's totally out of the color schemes of my room, it's just emotions)

Do you have a photo of the whole mic rather than closeups?

The OP has posted very large pictures which are not displaying properly.

Right-click on the photo and select "view photo" to see the complete picture.

The mic. looks like a cheap Japanese microphone from the 1960's / 1970's and a "general purpose" electret condenser mic.

Not very good in today's terms.

It is solid (like any japanese craft), and when I saw it has no name, I knew it wouldn't be good, was really curious what it is. Too bad it doesn't work :c

I thought had something in the words "condenser". If so, it would require phantom power or some kind of power (batteries).

As I said in the main post, it is powered by a 1.5v AA battery. It crackles when I insert a battery, hums when I touch the metallic part of its head, but does not recognize any sound..

It's an electret condenser.

These early ones would be front-electret, with the electret element being the diaphragm.

These early mics often had the permanent electret voltage leak away over time - the battery only powers the electronics in the mic., not the capsule itself.

It's probably dead through old-age.
