What kind of mic is good for...?

What I want to do is mic a keyboard amp? Now, is there different mics for miking guitar amps, bass guitar amps, and keyboard amps? Or will one mic do the trick for all types of amps. I am looking in the $600 or less range. Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks,

I normally do that. But I want to try something new (for me at least). I was just wondering due to the different frequencies that say a guitar and a bass would produce would you use a different type mic for each cabinet or not...

Try a large diaphram condensor far enough back from the cabinet to capture the horn and speakers (I'm assumming that for keys, your amps speakers have horn tweets and 12" speaks), about 3' or so. There are plenty of choises in the $200 to $300 range.

most people use sm57's for micing a guitar amp. It's a great mic for $80. But for a keyboard you might be disapointed if you spend $600 on a mic and then you decide going direct in sounds better. So try the 57 if you want, it's your recording.
