tip on using bright mikes

For a “big” vocal sound with maximum presence,

Mount the mic on a boom stand, and tilt the capsule up
(toward the forehead) for more projection and head
tone, straight on at the mouth for maximum brightness
and intelligibility, or down toward the chest
for more robust lows and smoother highs.

from the blueberry manual.

Cyan, that's very handy for using condenser mikes.
My understanding, however, is that for dynamic mikes "straight down the
barrel" is the way to go for a full rich tone. (unlike condensers)

Cyan - and which 'voice' you wanted to bring out would depend as much on the particular song as the particular singer.

Damn, that's useful. I wish it was time to track right now! :D

I am very pleased you got what you wanted, however, the advice from the manual is not necessarily sound advice for every mic. Not only are many mics different, they react different to specific placements.

Each application will be different as rooms vary, so perhaps this will work for you, and I hope it does, but as a general rule, that is not what may work with other mics.

this may not have anything to do with anything but i've always wanted to get one of those old throat microphones that pilots wore around there neck and see what it would sound like.
