Static noise?

Hello,

I wanted to record my voice but i noticed that the quality was kind of bad. (using a razer headset)

I tried to change the format to 16 bits 96000hz studio quality which makes my voice very clear but in the background there is a lot of static. Even when i put the settings to 0db. Is this because i'm using my microphone onboard? Would a sound card fix that problem?

Bad microphone is bad. I have a razer carcharias headset and the microphone that comes with it I can clearly say, sucks. If you want a good budget recording microphone, go and get yourself a Shure SM58 along with an Audio Interface. ( You can read those up in this forum ) I can guarantee you that the sound quality will be so much better than the headset one. May I know if you are recording for gaming commentary or what? Is your environment noisy or quiet?
