sm57 or sm58?

One has a ball on top of it and the other one doesn't. Which reminds me... One of my best friends has only one testicle. He was born that way... I call him Uniballer...
 
The 58 has a little pop filter/ball thing like you see on most on-stage vocal microphones. It also has a bass-rolloff feature to compensate for the proximity effect....so you can get right up into it and sing real loud without the signal getting all bassy on ya...(natural effect that happens with all dynamic mics)

I demoed a Beta 58 not too long ago. Not a bad microphone I suppose for on-stage vocals and whatnot. Sounds pretty much like my 57 though...just a little hotter and it has a nice tight pickup pattern so you really don't hear anything but what's right in front of the mike.
