Hello, I am posting this for any of you considering the purchase of an SM57 or a Beta 52 from shure. I know I was confused about mics so this should help anyone out who might have been in my situation.
Here's a small sample of a recording of my "jam session" using two SM57 microphones as overheads and my new Beta 52 on the kick. All of these recordings ran through a circa 1972 Peavy 12 channel mixer and recorded to my laptop through a US-122 Tascam USB interface.
(recording on a major budget but so far it sounds good)
I added a good amount of low end for that deep punchy sound.
the goods:Sample Here (*.mp3, 400kb)
I am happy how the two Shure SM57 mics pick up my snare, hi-hats, all cymbals very clearly. Those mics are awesome.
This sample shows the detail they pick up:
the goods: Sample 2
I'll add more samples if anyone else is interested
Bottom line: I didn't know what bass mic to get. But I'm happy with my Beta 52. Thanks for reading.
