Can anyone tell me what's the difference between these two?
All I know so far that they're almost the same..
The 57 beta is used for instruments too, and I'd like to use them for vocals (both live and recording).
Please help me choose.

Well.. I think I'll order the beta 57 and my buddy will lend me his beta 58 and I'll compare the two.. that sounds legit right?

Beta 58a v. Beta 57a

I own both mics, the 58a is great for vocal reproduction. It has a usable amount of PE as you bring the source closer and has a gentle slope up from 900Hz and presence peaks at 4.5kHz and 9kHz.

The Beta 57a has a more neutral (flatter response) in the midrange with similar but less dramatic presence peaks at 4.5kHz and 9kHz, however it does have a significant dip at about 6kHz. I believe that this lack of sibilant response tailors the mic to instruments which may have overemphasis in this area.

I have successfully used the 58a in live and studio vocal as well as floor tom in the studio. I find the accentuated presence adds definition to the attack of the drum head.

The 57a is my current go to snare mic. It does a nice job of taming the 6-7kHz in the drum.
