Phantom Power

Although it is not really recommended, you can send phantom power to any dynamic microphone. The voltage will not hurt anything, although there has been a few isolated instances where it did do damage to the mic. But I have never seen it happen, have only read that it has happened.

What you don't want to plug in is a Ribbon mic with phantom power on!!! This will detroy the mic.

Hey, no kidding? That means separate preamping if you're using a ribbon and a condenser at the same time, then.

You can send Phantom power to any dynamic mic without causing any real dammage (appar from freak happenings with the odds of internal combustion) but it has no advantages with a 57 either.

Thank you for the info. I have a direct pro 24/96 and it has phantom power but it goes to all 4 inputs on the breakout box. I just wanted to know if i could use the condenser at the same time as the dynamic.
