Michael will make that rode sound a lot better! I have several microphone that have been modified by him and they all sound better than stock.
Well ..... it is all a matter of opinion. But yeah close, but no U87.
At the price of the microphone then the price of the mod it is well worth it for what your going to get back.
But hey purchase a U87 then go DANG should have saved a butt load of money and modified the rode.

I have three pairs of Joly modded mics (one pairs the NT2), they're truely great.

I have a Joly-modded MKL-2500 and ML-52. Absolutely worth it, the sound gets a lot more open. The Rodes are a bit dark in my opinion, so the mod may be a great thing for it.

True, and I would at a higher price range, but I sacrifice cost for convenience under $300
