I'm really new at this - 'been using an el cheapo Radio Shack mic that has a 1/4" plug - it goes right into my BR8. I've been very disappointed by the quality of the sound (even tho my voice sounds like a bad muffler on a old Datsun - But hey if Joe Walsh can do it.....) Anyhoo... I just bought a Shure 58 online and hope to get it soon. I've read on the Microphone page that I'm gonna need an 'impedance matching transformer' at the least. Will I need a preamp? What is a preamp? If this mic uses / requires 'phantom power' where will it get the juice from? does the 'impedance matching transformer' kind of get you around that? I don't want all the best accessories just yet if I can just get a good sound off the mic with the minimum of extra gadgets.
