MXL 770 or MXL 990?

The first thing you should ask yourself is:

Is my room acoustically good enough that I can tell any difference between any condenser mic below or around $100?
Dynamics are less sensitive than condensers, and thus will be more forgiving in a poor environment.

If your acoustics are bad or less than ideal, and you want a cheap condenser, just buy the less-expensive one and save the money.

I have the V67. They are a bit noisy but that one can live with.

If you plan any female vocals with this, it can have a nasty 'rip' at about 3000-4000hz depending on mic angle and delivery.

Overall, I still maintain that a bad room makes most of the cheap condenser decisions moot. 57 and 58 will come out winners in many instances because you sing/play more closely to them and don't hear the lousy acoustics quite so much.
I did a vocal with a 58 in my closet which sounded better than done with a Neumann 147 in the same space. Why? Presence and quiet from the close singing.

The Neumann had a lot of detail but also took in everything else. So will the MLX mics. It's the nature of them.
