Micing to guitar preamp

I have a shure 58 which I want to plug into DOD vgs50 guitar preamp for recording vocals, as I can't afford a vocal preamp yet. The preamp has only unbalanced inputs. How can I plug the mic into the preamp with an unbalanced cable? The mic only uses XLR cables.

You can find XLR to 1/4" cables at any music store.

Are those 1/4"-XLR cables balanced? If they are, would it be unsafe to plug into the unbalanced inputs of the guitar preamp?

The one that I have is unbalanced. Though, even if it were balanced it wouldn't hurt anything.
