Mic without proximity effect for vocals?

Regroup... We've all established that all directional mics have the effect (with the exceptions AKG, EV's.
Presumably ..always? not sure, the tighter the patterns the more the effect.
Then you have a) how much low cut they built into the mic to re-balance, compensate and b)
How close they let you get. I.e. SM7 on one end- has the effect but keeps you off the cap, and the many others let you get much closer.

Extrapolate that.. and the more they 'compensate, or the more they let you up get close, the thinner quicker they get as you move off.

And sound very different.

The SM58 has a tailored response to help the vocal cut through a backing band.

The Sennheiser mics with this cut-through reponse are the e840, e935 and e945.

I read that the 58's response was tailored to work with the Shure Vocal Master PA columns, but I can't back that up.

When I first used 835s I was surprised how well they cut through.
