Mic for recording vocals

Hello,
am looking for mic that would be good for recording vocals. More specifically:
- i record in a room with rather poor acoustics
- people singing (both male and female voices) tend to sing low volume
- on the other hand the instruments we play do make some noise - hence problem of leaking
- i got tiny preamp (art-tube) and m-audio profire26262

Now I have Behringer C1. Is there any upgrade that would make sense and cost not more than, say 300-400 eur? I would like to have some warm, tube-like sound.

Many thanks for any suggestions!

Check out the MXL 2003a. ;)
And if you close mic the vocals (hopefully) you don't have to worry about the room as much.
Do a scratch vocal then go back and do a good take.

IMHO ditch the Behringer and use the extra $$ for a...

1) Classic dynamic ala Beyer M88, or vintage Sennheiser MD421 (not the newer MKII!)
Thinking these will run somewhat cheaper than a Shure SM7 or EV RE20, for example.

Also then upgrade by adding a nice sounding budget mic pre, like the Studio Projects VTB-1.

Just to throw a curved ball, have a look at one of these, Audio Technica 2010, I just bought one for the studio to use when tracking live vocal with a band. Sounds like a condenser but with the rejection of a dynamic. You do need to use a pop shield or foam wind sock with it.

US street price is onlyUS$85.

Cheers

Alan.
