Add this to your list... which one is your favorite mic out of your collections?
I think mine is my Sennheiser 441, maybe a tie with my Neumann.

My mic locker suddenly seems so small and inadequate....:D

(2) ADK A-51 Type III
(2) Oktava MK012
(1) SP C-1
(1) SM57

On deck? (Better known as the Wish List, within reason...)

V67B
A couple of B-1's
AT 4033
Possibly a pair of C-4's or 603's
At least one more SM57
At least one GOOD dynamic.

I don't record live drums in my studio (I've got a set of Hart electronics), so I don't need the drum mics...

1 Studio Projects C-3
1 Rode NTK
1 AKG D112
2 AKG D690
2 Shure SM-57
2 Behringer ECM 8000
1 AKG C2000B
2 Oktava MC012
1 Oktava MK319

Targeted next:
Marshall MXL V67B (because it's cheap)
Shure SM-7 (need a high-end dynamic)
Srephen Paul mic vs. B.L.U.E. KIWI/Dragonfly (need a higher end LD vocal condenser)

Wow...alot of mics in this group. I notice a trend here on several mics. Seems like most people have at least one of each of these:

Shure SM57 (of course)
Marshall MXL 603s
Behringer ECM8000
Oktava MC-012 (MK-012)

We all must have gotten our advice from the same people....or each other...or something....:p

I'm just getting started with this so it ain't much:
2 MXL V67
1 SP B3
4 SM57

On my 'soon to purchase' list:
2 ECM8000
2 MXL 603s or SP C4
1 ATM25 or Beta 52

Wish List:
LD tube condensor (still undecided)
RE-20
Beyer ribbon mic

In the order they were purchased:

AKG C-3000

RODE NT-2

RODE NTV

BLUE Cactus ooooohhhhhhh!

Want a couple nice SD like KM84's or QTC-1MP's........

And a nice Senn 441 or two..........

Too many other little projects though. Need to build gobos. Want to rewire my guitar, have my 70 Twin recapped/xfmr/the whole works............

Then I gotta see about a couple NICE pres........... something "transformer" and something not transformer. Like maybe a Great River and a Davisound...........

Eyes are glazing over.................. approaching dream-state........ AH!

Im suprised that C7sus lets those Chinese Rode mics in the house. (Its a known fact that they only get the shaft added on in austraillia).

i do classical, so my list and needs are a bit different than most of you. over the past year, i have sold my pair of neumann tlm103s, my pair of royer r-121s, my pair of rode NTKs (those are very nice LDC's, btw), a pair of SP C1s, a pair of rode NT5s, a pair of AT4041s, and all i have right now is:
2X - Neumann KM184s
2X - Neumann-Gefell M300s
and am shopping for sennheiser mkh40s, schoeps cmc6/mk4s, or perhaps DPA 4011s and a pair of KM130s. i have given up on the idea that there are any inexpensive mics that will suffice for classical recordings. i continue to be baffled by the fact that so many people will spend so much time and money trying to make decent recordings, yet still dont seem to understand that the microphone is THE MOST CRITICAL link in the signal chain. IMHO, the best thing you can do in this business is to put your money in good mics.

Agreed! I am searching mainly for either Neumann KM series smalls or more favaroably the Sennheiser MKH series. Be ready to pay some money for the MKH series though, but they are super duper nice. I'm hunting too. If I find em out of my range, I'll point you to em.
Peace,
Paul

It seems like it wouild be tricky with a lot of the mics you mentioned. Have you ever tried an mc012 by chance?

I couldn't possibly agree any more.

I found an Sennheiser MKH 406 p48 for 250$ approximately...
Is that what you're looking for?
On a side note, does anybody know anything about a fostex b-16 reel2reel,... crap? good?

"favorite mic" (tubedude)

For ballads it's the Studio Projects C1.
For uptempo material, the Beyer M88TG in a quiet room,
and at home, either a Sennheiser 421(pop/rock) or a SM57
(for blues based rock). It's mainly a matter of taste, all of the
microphones in my list can record vocals well.

The EV 664 is also good at winning Grammy's!

Just ask George Benson. (the song was"This Masqerade")
It was used for the "scratch" vocal and ended up a keeper.
