MD441 or 431?

So I'm recording generally in unideal environments, so I want a dry / tight supercardioid dynamic mic, and it seems the MD441 is the ideal, flat, condenser like mic for general use.

That said, it costs about $1000 and the MD 431 is apparently the same capsule for half the price. So could I buy a 431 and use it for guitar / voice / piano / tablas / balalaika? I much prefer 1 good mic over a number of specific mics, as I travel / record is crappy rooms (doing my best to throw around some blankets and furniture).

A third mic I've considered has been the CAD e100s, but reviews say it picks up a lot of ambiance (even though it's a supercardioid).

So really I just want to know, how does the MD431 ii compare to the MD441? And if the capsules are the same, will removing the grill/foam from the 431 make it sound closer to a 441?

Btw, here's an old related thread I decided not to bump,
