How to hook up a microphone to an old stereo receiver?

Is there any way I can connect my computer mic to an old stereo receiver. I'm not interested in any quality sound, I just want to see how it works. I have a common computer mic ("TELEX") with a 1/8 inch stereo jack, and and old stereo receiver "Sony xo-700w" which has a mic 1/4 inch socket (i guess its stereo?). I've tried hooking it up with an 1/8 to 1/4 adapter, but i barely get any noise (I only get some clicks when i touch the mic or so)
I can put my electric guitar in the stereo receiver directly (with my mono guitar cable) or using that same adapter (and another adapter xD), and it works either way. So why doesn't it work with the mic?

Thanks :)

I'm pretty sure the 1/4" jack is mono, and is looking for a high impedance mic. There might be some way to make it talk to that mic, but it almost certainly would not be worth it. It's kind of like trying to drop the engine from a minibike into a half ton pickup.
