Has anybody used this?

I had a chance to try it a while back. I didn't end up buying it.

Perhaps an oversimplification but basically if you put a really good mic in, you could make it sound like a much cheaper mic quite successfully. However, the opposite didn't apply--it couldn't make a cheap mic sound as good as an expensive one. Yes, it could tweak EQ to make the response curve more similar but it couldnt replace detail or quality that wasn't there.

Okay, as I said, I oversimplify--it's not the expense of the mic that matters but, rather, what the original sounds like and sometimes the similarity was pretty good. However, it very much depended on whether the original had a sound that could be moulded in the right direction.

I've used the original version and didn't think much of it. I agree that it can make a great mic sound like an SM57 but not the other way round.
