Condenser or SM58 for ovrhd drum mic?

I've read here that a condenser is the ideal
choice for overhead mic'ing of a drumset.
I then read on Harmony Central's percussion
page that SM58's make good overhead drum
mics. Up until now, I have simply used
one SM57 overhead and had so-so results.
This setup is due to budget limitations.
What I would like to do is maybe get one
condenser for overhead, keep the sm57 for
the snare mic, and maybe pick up a decent
bass mic. Any suggestions?

thanks

absolutely use a condenser for overheads. the c1000s do a fine job considering their price. many pro studios now are using ribbon mics as drum overheads, like they used on the beatles.

I use an AKG C3000 for my overhead.
It works great.
That makes 3 votes for using a condenser mic.
Convinced yet?

Why the hell would anyone use an SM58 for overheads??? WHY?!?!?!?!?
