There's no rule, ever.
An eq may not even be necessary.

An eq is used to make frequency adjustments. Those adjustments are usually compensation for lacking or undesirable frequencies in your recording.
That's caused by the source, the environment, the position of the source in the environment, the mic choice, the mic position etc.


If all of those things are ideal then eq won't be needed.
If they aren't ideal it's your unique setup and you'll have to listen to see what needs done.

Yup.

And when I've miked choirs with X-Y condensers I find they need little or no EQ if I'm careful about the mic positioning and aiming.
