CAD? Mackie? Alesis? Garbage?

I have a modest home studio and I'm trying to think of inexpensive (ha hah) ways to upgrade bits of my sound.

For vocals, here is what I have right now:

Microphone: CAD 22
Pre-amp: built into Mackie 1202
Compressor: Alesis NanoCompressor

I've always figured that the weak link here was the microphone. Is that a sound assumption?

Are there any decent microphones out there for less than $100? If not, what would be a good vocal mic that I could get maybe used for under $100?

Is there anything wrong with using the Mackie 1202 or NanoCompressor?

the two weak links are the cad mic and the nanocompressor. Try and look for an Audix OM-3 on ebay. You might be able to get one of those for under 100 bones.

There's an OM-2 available now.....how similar is it?

I'd recomend a condenser like the MXL v67 or 93 (I think those are the models. Around $100

Or if you want a dynamic the SM57 for $75. Get a condensor if you can. They are much nicer sounding and more versatile.
