Best Vocal Mic under $500?

I'm getting ready to start some computer recording and I'm looking for a good condensor mic under $500. I don't know a lot about them as far as comparisons go. I hope to get one by the end of the month. I'd appreciate any input. Is it best to get one with a shock mount or is a handheld type OK (like the AKG C1000S). Thanks for your help.

I thought it sold for $300 somewhere... "white box" or whatever. Still, that's one hell of a deal. I wish I could afford one.

Well, depending on how far under 500$ you wanna go, 8th Street is selling the AT 4050 w/ shockmount for 479 shipped. Now if you check out places like Mars and Guitar Center, this mic sells for 599 (not including sales tax)and I don't think you get the shockmount either. It just seems like an amazing deal, so if you've got 500, that could be a good route. -RyanV

I know it's kinda ironic me posting this. But it's stupid to take up space with stupid posts on the information forums just for the sake of getting more posts.

This topic has been covered so much in the past, that i really think we should make some kind of information page that people can refur to.

Omnipotent, having created this thread, I realize that some of this may be repetitive to you. However, my time has been very limited due to a death in the family, so I haven't had a lot of hours to search on posts. Plus, if i have not heard of a certain mic, I have no way to search for it. I think that the idea of an information page is a great idea. But until it exists, those of us who are extremely stretched for time are not going to be able to spend hours searching through posts. That's why this exists. I'm sorry if you find it repetitive, but you certainly don't have to read or post to any thread that you don't want to. Perhaps I will try to post things like this in the newbie if that would be more appropriate.

Sorry lookout, my origional aim wasn't actually an attack on you, but more of a build up to the fact that we should make an information page on this topic. I have no proboblem with genuine posts in any of the forums, but topics that come up so frequently, such as this one, should have a detailed information page, so the same replies arn't continualy called upon, and people like you can get the information you need instantly.

Here are some pages that may help you;

Good luck!, sorry if I offended you,
omni...:)

No omnipotent, you didn't offend me. I just haven't had a lot of time to look around posts yet. I did check out a few tonight, and they seem to tell me that perhaps the AT4033 is the way to go. I'm sure once I've been on here for a little while, I may get tired of seeing the same things too. Thanks for the links that you gave me. I will try to look at those as soon as I can. I do appreciate your help as well as the help from others on the post. Hopefully in a few months I'll be able to share information to help others myself.

I would like to also recommend the AT 4033 (thats audio technica) I got one for $325 at guitar center and its great. Just make sure you use a preamp if you are recording to PC or any other digital unit. Otherwise you will not like the results.

bulk pack

i jsut got mine in the mail today! :)

definitely go to 8th Street music... they have what's called a bulk pack.. but it's brand new.. just packaged different...

FREE SHIPPING... NO TAX... just $299 plain and simple!

go to 8thstreet's website now...

when someone told me about this deal.. i went straight there and bought it... what a deal! as you can tell i'm stoked... but i GUARANTEE you can't find it for 299.. not even used on ebay.

Enjoy

Yeah, I think I've decided on the AT4033. I am planning on getting it at 8th Street. That's where I got my Korg Trinity 2 1/2 years ago. I like them. The people I've talked to there seem to be fairly knowledge and friendly. Plus, I like the no shipping or sales tax as well. Thanks for all of your input. It has been gretly appreciated. Thanks for the links omnipotent. They were very helpful. If a FAQ is ever being developed, let me know and I'll see if I can help. Thanks again everyone.
