Odds are the OP may have bought a mic sometime in the last year
AND it would be about time to move up to an AT 4050.

Here's a related question...if you only have $500 to spend on your mics, would you get a "best mic for $500" or 2-3 less expensive ones that might give you more of a range of 'colors?'

homestudioguy and dgatwood, thanks for the answers. I'm in the "I don't know when I'll see another $500" camp, but I mainly record voice or voice with piano. I guess I might have to save up until I can afford a higher end mic,
I've got a modded 319, a pair of 012's w/ cardioids caps(bought way back when they were $50 each at GC), and a red capsule for the 012's. I actually like the sound of the Red capsules, and the modded 319 is great on certain voices, including my own. Oh yeah, it's not mine, but my bro-in-law has a bluebird that I also get to use whenever I want,What are you using now?
Then buy a used condenser in the meantime while saving. They normally sell for the same at a later stage. Unless you allready have a mic to record with while saving.... I guess I might have to save up until I can afford a higher end mic,Juan
AT4050 $479 at AMS! Musician's Friend will price match.
What is the best way to know where a mic is made? Is it just experience with certain brands and types? I'm looking to buy a nice LDC for vocals, and I would prefer it not to be made in China. How much does that limit me? Is there a list anywhere of non-china mics? so many questions...
