I have just begun searching for a solution to find some drum beats to play/practice to. I am a guitarist that just plays at home. After my initial search for a drum machine it became evident that I could probably benefit from a keyboard with a sequencer. I want to stay away from the PC. I want something that I can just turn on and go. I really like the dedicated MPC style pads. From my limited knowledge it appears the Akai units with those pads are simply controllers with no sounds. Am I wrong on this point? Ease of use with the sequencer would be a plus too.
I have the free Cubase and a NI Kompete 6 but am not using either much. Not interested in recording just yet. Budget is no more than $1000 but cheaper would be great. 46 key is plenty for me.
