Recording guitar amp using my Nikon D7000

I have a few video cameras including a Nikon D7000 digital camera. Only the Nikon have mic level adjustment and still distorted even recording 10' away from the guitar amp. I don't know how to record the guitar amp that sound good enough and not distorted.

I am thinking about buying a instrument mic, put a volume pot before connecting to the camera. So far I have seen this

GLS ES-57 $39

What else do I need to get. I know I need XLR mic cable, maybe an attenuator as I want to record loud. I need another mic for recording voice. Then I need XLR to a Y connector that fit into the camera with small stereo mic jack.

Please give me advice what to buy. I don't want to spend a lot of money, the video is for demo, not for CD quality.

Thanks

I doubt that camera has a decent microphone preamp. Your best bet is to record the amp to a DAW (or stand-alone audio recorder) then edit the audio recording to the video in your computer.
