Total Crap Multi FX unit, bypass?

Ok, I've recently resurructed my DOD Tec4x "Multi-effects" processor for a bit of fun. I put it in my fx loop and promptly remembered that it doesn't have a true-bypass. I don't know if this is the standard or not, but it is quite frustrating to have to contain volume for my entire rig in the output knob of this multi unit. Some effects are cool, especially the more noval ones so I'd like to incorporate it into my setup. Unfortunately without the true bypass my tone when I don't want to use this pedal=shit. Clean is flat and missing its usual shimmer and the rhythm and solo channel feel much more reserved. In other words everything is watered down. Any ideas on how to solve this, or are those A/B switching pedals a solution to my problem. I only want to use this pedal occasionally and don't want it destroying everything else.
Current Setup (in order)
Tradition S-20 (les paul copy)
Dunlop Hendrix wah
Crate GT1200H half stack (seriously considering selling and going tube)
Effects loop:
Danelectro Black coffee metal distortion (for a noval effect)
DOD Tec4x
MXR EVH Phase 90.

Thanks guys
James
