Starter pedals?

One last thing I'd say: Don't be afraid to try brands you've never heard of. I just bought an older (V1) Cusack Music Tap-A-Whirl tremelo. The newer ones may sound better, I dunno, but they have all these graphics on them. Mine is just raw machined steel. Tremelo is not the hardest thing to manufacture but I bet there are shit ones out there. I've tried the basic Boss version and it's pretty limited. The Tap-a-whirl (lame name) is actually pretty cool. Has a lot of features and flexibility, and it doesn't have an apparent gain suck. The newer ones are $250 though. I got mine for $140 used, which I consider a steal for how much I ended up liking it.

I go to this Utub channel a lot. the German wspeaks excellent English and with no significant accent. he covers super cheap all the way through to uber boutique pedals.

Ignore the most recent couple as he's being a droob.
The Harley Benton (Joyo) pedals are well covered as are guitars & amps but his basic trade is pedal reviewing.
